Experian Buys Consumerinfo.com

Mar 19, 200– Experian will purchase Consumerinfo.com, a consumer credit report Web site, from Homestore.com for $130 million in cash.

ConsumerInfo.com sells credit reports and other services to individuals. The company’s products can be purchased on a subscription basis, for $79.95 a year, and on an individual basis, with services ranging from $9.95 to $44.95 per purchase.

ConsumerInfo.com currently has 778,000 members, and has sold more than 2 million reports since its founding in 1995.

“This acquisition is an opportunity to expand significantly our reach into the direct-to-consumer market, a major growth strategy for Experian North America,” said Don Robert, Orange, CA-based Experian’s chief operating officer, in a statement.

Robert continued, “ConsumerInfo.com has a powerful distribution network and an experienced management team. We will be able to leverage the power of our core credit file and analytical tools and deliver them to fast-growing new markets.”
